Another Norfolk pub connection - The Foldgate, Stradsett

Sarah Ann JARROD
Sarah Ann JARROD was born on 4th Dec 1850 in West Dereham, Norfolk to Henry and Mary JARROD, sister to my great grandma Jessie. She married William ADDERSON on 1 Nov 1871 at Marham, Norfolk.
Foldgate Inn today

Sarah Ann and William lived in Marham, Crimplesham and Stradsett. In 1901 they were running the Foldgate Inn at Stradsett. (William was licensee 1900 - 1904, then Sarah until 1912).

An ADDERSON wedding photo @ The Foldgate

A few years ago a cousin of mine sent me some photos of Sarah's family taken at the marriage of one of their sons. It is clearly taken outside the pub.

William died in 1906 and Sarah in 1926. William is buried in the beautiful little churchyard at Stradsett

In 1917 Sarah moved from Stradsett to Fern Villa, Lynn Rd, Downham.(This was recorded on her son Robert's WW1 service record). She died in July 1926.

Her probate record found on helps to place her death. Eva, the beneficiary of her will, was her daughter.
Today the Foldgate Inn is a busy pub, at a busy crossroads, and popular with young people. It is part of the Stradsett Estate, where several of my ancestors lived and worked.

Re: the wedding photo. It's a good thing there was not any heavy traffic at the time, as it appears they set up the photo shoot in the road! ;*)
